A Prayer for the Family

In todays society ‘Family’ is in dire need of prayer. With culture set aside; safe keeping and decent development have lost its priority in the home. Our homes are absent of leadership and spiritual foundation; driven by electronics, social entertainment and worldly concepts. These sources should NOT be the foundation of our homes and growing values. As believers in Christ we need to pray for the restoration of proper parenting in the family head. Pray that mother’s and father’s are choosing the Lord’s commands to govern the foundations of our homes just as Joshua did in his time, “But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve,…But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD,” Joshua 24:15 NIV.

Wisdom tells us, “Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it,” Proverbs 22:6 KJV. Mothers should be leading their homes dignified, sober-minded and faithful in all things. (1Timothy 3:11) Instead what we see is bitterness, self ambition, slander, drunkeness and no discretion or moral value. Let us pray that our mothers are healed in their minds so that they can be wise and not foolish. That, “she watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness,” Proverbs 31:27 NIV. Let us pray that she understands her purpose in creation as a fuit bearer, producing good fruit by example of restraint, chastity not enticement, obedience and love. Lord reconcile the mother to her purpose that, “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her,” Proverbs 31:28 ESV.

“Fathers do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord,” Ephesians 6:4 ESV. An absent father cannot safegaurd, discipline or instruct his child. The enemy has been given a foothold to attack the responsibilities of the father. Some men have fallen to such uncivil behaviors that they are emasculated in the eyes of the children and the women that bear them. Let us pray that our fathers are forgiven and can sincerely assume their gender roles to the family head. Pray that he choses to serve God and not the world so that he may provide and protect with integrity that his children may be blessed. “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel,” 1 Timothy 5:8 KJV.

We want our homes to be built on sound docterine, to have wise counsel and illustration that develops Godly character from generation to generation. So let us pray that our mothers and fathers will set examples of good character, illustrating love, self control, purity and patience. Pray that the teaching of God’s word is the foundation of the home and impressed in the heart of the family. Amen.
